Putting Bexley First - Conservatives Launch Manifesto for

Bexley Conservatives have published their manifesto for the 2010 local elections. The manifesto sets out the policies the Conservatives will implement if re-elected to run Bexley Council.

Launching the document outside Erith Library, Cllr Teresa O'Neill, Leader of Bexley Conservatives, said:

"Our manifesto shows we have the energy and enthusiasm to deliver for people in Bexley over the next four years, building on the achievements secured since 2006.

We have never forgotten that it is the public's money that pays for Council services, and our overall plan is to calmly manage Government spending cuts that are coming, whichever Party wins the General Election, and deliver high quality services at a price we can all afford."

Among the pledges in the manifesto, Bexley Conservatives will:

Ø  Tackle congestion and improve the environment in Welling Town Centre
Ø  Deliver CCTV cameras for Crayford, Bexley Village and Northumberland Heath
Ø  Recycle 55% of all rubbish collected
Ø  Complete the rebuilding of the Harris Falconwood Academy and deliver a new Haberdashers’ Aske’s Academy for Crayford
Ø  Improve facilities at Lesnes Abbey
Ø  Freeze allowances for Conservative councillors for the full four year Council term of office

Cllr Simon Windle, Bexley Conservatives’ Deputy Leader, added:

"In 2006 we promised we would bring Council spending under control and restrict any Council Tax rises to lower than the rate of inflation. We have delivered on that promise.

We also promised to get rid of the Welling Bus Lane, remove graffiti within 7 days, increase recycling and modernise meals on wheels to give choice to customers. We have done all that, and a lot more, and we are ready to get back to work on behalf of our residents, and put Bexley first over the next four years."
