Bexley Conservatives call on Government to give Boris more control of South Eastern Trains

Friday, 20 January, 2012

Conservative Leader of Bexley Council has written to the Secretary of State for Transport Justine Greening, asking for more control of South Eastern Trains to be transferred to the Mayor of London. The franchise for services that run between Dartford and central London destinations are due for renewal in 2014.

Leader of the Council Teresa O'Neill said:

"Boris Johnson has a strong record running London Underground and securing upgrades to the Tube. Bexley residents rely on our train services, yet we do not have a guarantee of quality and the present operators have a poor record delivering a reliable timetable. If South Eastern's performance was monitored by Transport for London and they had a greater say in the services run we could expect a better service. I have asked both the Secretary of State and our local members of parliament to support the move"
