Christmas Eve in Bexley – Car Parks are free of charge!
Bexley’s Conservative run Council – which has frozen your council tax bills for the last two years – has announced it will be free to park in all Bexley’s car parks this Saturday, Christmas Eve.
Announcing the decision, Cllr Peter Craske, said:
“I am pleased to announce we are making all of Bexley’s car parks free of charge this coming Christmas Eve. This means over the festive period we are waiving charges on six days.
With the largest number of car parking spaces in the area, and with some of the best shops and shopping centres too, Bexley is the place to come for the last minute Christmas shopping and the post-Christmas sales.”
This rounds off a year in which the Conservatives have cut the costs of on street parking in areas of Bexleyheath and Welling town centres by 38% and introduced many new free parking bays across the Borough. In addition, a survey published earlier in the year showed that Bexley has the lowest car park charges in the area.
It is cheaper to park for up to four hours in any Bexley car park than it costs to park for just one single hour in Labour controlled Greenwich, and Bexley is four times cheaper than the Labour flagship Borough of Newham, where it costs a staggering £8 to park. In Lewisham, Labour charges over £5 for just four hours, and 35p for just 15 minutes of parking.
Those neighbouring Labour Councils plan further huge increases in charges in the coming year.
Recently, Bexley’s Labour councillors said that car park charges were not gerenating enough income for the Council. Praising Greenwich for its charges, they called for an urgent review to see how much charges should be increased by.
